Mommy, Taho!

Every morning while dressing my cute kiddo Kelsea or her watching me and my hubby dress up for work, she suddenly keeps quiet and then say, "Mommy/Daddy, taho!". She's always the one who can hear the Mamang magtataho :) This is one of her favorite breakfast food (combo with her milk and sometimes Skyflakes) before taking a heavy meal in the office.

What is TAHO?  According to Wikipedia, Taho is a Philippine snack food made of fresh soft or silken tofu, arnibal (brown sugar and vanilla syprup) -- yumyum!, and pearl sago (similar to pearl tapioca). This signature sweet comfort food can be found all over the country.

Every kid must have taste taho once in his/her lifetime. Our family loves taho. As kids, we were raised eating Taho. You can often see a  "magtataho" on the streets carrying 2 aluminum buckets of different sizes (I bet their bodies ache at the end of the day). One bucket has the tofu while the other one has the arnibal and sago. They have 2 available cups priced at 5 pesos and 10 pesos or you can also make use of your own cup. One of the magtataho in our village is not the traditional one when it comes to carrying his goods. He goes around the streets using a pedicab with umbrella :) I still have to take a picture of him.

Many say that it's healthy (being made from tofu) but some say it's not (made from Plaster of Paris). Well, I think the all-time favorite Taho is here to stay :)
